Four Ways Churches Can Be More Generous
No matter where you go, everyone talks about relationships. Whether it’s online or in real life, marketers, bloggers, and business people are emphasizing their importance when it comes to doing business. While exploring the profitability of customer and organizational relationships is important, every once in a while it’s good to think about you can be generous with people as well.
Generosity is especially important when it comes to churches connecting with their congregations. It’s easy to get caught up in the new building fund, vacation Bible school or the day-to-day costs of running the church. But if we’re constantly asking our attendees to give and we don’t take the time to pour back into them, we can lose that connection that made them want to attend in the first place.
With that in mind, here are four easy ways your church can be generous with your congregation and community:
Say thank you. Be generous with your thanksgiving. Whether it’s a large donor or someone who tithes one time, saying thank you shows that you understand the value of people and what they give. It also models an attitude of humility and graciousness, which are hallmarks of biblically generous people.
Be transparent about church finances. Today, it doesn’t take much searching to find where organizations and businesses are spending their money. People are often surprised when they find out their financial gifts are spent on things they might not agree with or want to support. By being transparent with your congregation about how the church spends its money, you create trust with the people who give into your church.
Share stories of impact. Everyone loves a good story. We love it even more when we hear about how we’ve helped create impact in the lives of other people. If you’ve taken a special offering for a family or your church supports missionaries through church giving, share stories of how their money is creating change and impact. People are more motivated to give when they hear how their giving helps others.
Make giving easy. According to Pew Research Center, 64 percent of Americans own a smartphone. It is the way most people access information, social media, and email. For churches, it’s a great space to connect with their congregation. Make it easier to give by having a mobile app (like Aware3) for your church.
At Aware3, we often talk about driving generous giving in churches. One of the best ways to see your congregation become a group of generous giving increase is to model it well. Contact us to learn more about how Aware3 can help your church with content sharing and giving.
